Illustration

My illustration practice explores the storytelling potential of folklore and mythology, drawing on the visual traditions of European folk art and historical printmaking. Through intricate watercolour compositions and symbolic imagery, I reinterpret familiar narratives and archetypes, exploring how illustrations can preserve inherited beliefs while challenging the conventions through which they are represented.

Working primarily in watercolour, I build layers of translucent washes within carefully planned compositions where symmetry plays a central role. Drawing on the formal balance of traditional ornament and decorative arts, I use symmetry to establish visual order while introducing unexpected details that complicate the image's apparent harmony. Each illustration becomes an opportunity to reconsider the relationship between visual storytelling and the cultural meanings we attach to images.
