Sgraffito Workshop

  • Crouch End Clayhouse (map)

Students will gain knowledge and practice of sgraffito, a decorative carving technique that can be applied to greenware surfaces. Slip or underglaze is applied to completely cover the greenware surface which is then carved away to reveal the bare clay. Students will initially practice on a “sketchbook” tile and then move on to another tile or their own trimmed greenware pieces. Designs can range from abstract mark-making to more intricately illustrated images.
