Sicilian Door Knocker Vase

This vase features three designs inspired by traditional brass door knockers found on historic buildings in Sicily. Each panel depicts a different knocker motif, including a crowned female face, a stylised lion and a protective hand, forms commonly used across Mediterranean architecture. Door knockers have long served both practical and symbolic roles, announcing visitors while also acting as guardians of the threshold. By translating these metal reliefs into carved ceramic imagery, the vase brings together architectural ornament and vessel form, preserving fragments of Sicilian street detail within a portable object.
