This vase references Selkie mythology, a body of coastal folklore from Scotland and the North Atlantic in which seal-women shed their skins to become human on land, often caught between sea and shore. Here the story is reimagined through two women standing together in water. One holds a snake beneath the surface, symbolising the earth and the hidden currents below, while the other raises the moon above her head, representing the sky and tidal cycles. Their joined hands connect these forces, creating a bridge between earth and sky. Birds and stars surround the figures, placing the scene within a wider natural rhythm. Rather than focusing on capture or loss, the imagery reframes the Selkie tale as one of balance, kinship and shared transformation.
