This lamp base is decorated with a sequence of symbolic panels exploring the darker side of romantic longing. The phrase “careful what you wish for” appears along the surface, acting as a quiet warning threaded through the imagery. A bird framed within an oval suggests devotion or messenger love, while surrounding motifs including a heart, watching eye, falling tears and outstretched hands evoke desire, vulnerability and the uneasy consequences of obsession. Such symbols echo the long tradition of moral sayings that caution against unchecked longing, where love can blur into fixation or illusion. The panelled layout recalls narrative storytelling found in folk ceramics and illustrated proverbs, allowing each motif to unfold like a fragment of a cautionary tale. When illuminated, the lamp casts a warm glow over these images, reinforcing the tension between the seductive pull of desire and the quiet risks hidden within it.
